Eily Mekhi LLC/Embrands™ mourns the passing of mentor, friend, upsilon extraordinaire, inventor and research and development chemist, Lemuel C. Leeper, Ph.D. Dr. Leeper served as the head of the Leeper Research and Development Laboratory and as a consultant to Eily Mekhi LLC/Embrands™ which markets easy shave® and many other products developed by Dr. Leeper. We extend our condolences to the family.

Dr. Lemuel C. Leeper, Ph.D. is a research and development chemist, an author and a Management Consultant with over 40 years experience in food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. His activities associated with the industries cited, includes preliminary research and development work through all steps required to manufacture and finally sell products to the retail market. Often these activities required designing and testing products, pharmaceutical and clinical testing and discussions with Food and Drug Administration and other regulatory agencies.
Dr. Leeper work in these fields resulted in the creation of timed release drug dosage capsules such as Dristan and Allerest. His thesis research on the “Conversion of Phenylalanine to Tyrosine” in the body was a contributing factor to the development of the PKU (Phenylketonuria) Test that is now used as a screening test at all hospitals on newly born infants.
Dr. Leeper served his country in the United States Army, at the Army Chemical Center in Edgewood, MD., where his work was associated with the various toxic chemical agents and their manufacture and affects on humans and animals. His scientific studies have lead to several medical product breakthroughs.
Dr. Leeper was Vice-president of Riverton Laboratories in Newark, New Jersey, where his activities included teaching Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Research Studies, and doing research and development work on the tranquilizer, Meprobamate. He is the former director of quality control and FDA compliance for Nysco Laboratories and USV Pharmaceuticals, two Revlon Corporation laboratories.
Dr. Leeper received his BA in Chemistry from Morgan State University, a Master of Science Degree in Biochemistry from Howard University and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Georgetown University in 1958. He is a member of Upsilon Phi Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and former president of Union County Urban League, Union, NJ. Dr. Leeper is by far a leading authority in the field of skin and shaving science and is affectionately well-known by the industry as the “Shavedude”.
